Hello! My name is Tammie Yong, and I am honored to serve as the Gifted Specialist here at Constitution. I’m thrilled to be in this role and to have the opportunity to work with your child this year.
I began my career in education but later stepped away to work in Corporate America for 13 years. However, my heart continually pulled me back to working with students, and I eventually returned to the classroom.
Over the years, I’ve taught students from kindergarten through fourth grade in a variety of roles, including general education classroom teacher, gifted cluster teacher, English Language Learner Specialist, and Reading Specialist. For the past seven years, I’ve had the privilege of working with gifted learners. I’m also the proud parent of a profoundly gifted child, which gives me both professional and personal insight into the unique needs of these students.
As a native Arizonan, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Arizona State University and later completed my MBA through the University of Phoenix. My passion for understanding and supporting gifted learners led me to pursue a Graduate Certificate in Gifted Education from Liberty University.
Teaching and learning are truly my passions, and I find great joy in helping children grow. My goal is to empower students to believe in themselves and their abilities by equipping them with the tools they need for lifelong learning, success, and resilience.
Gifted Testing Protocol
Testing is done three times during the school year; Fall, Winter and Spring. There is also testing over the summer if a parent chooses to pay for it.
The Winter testing window is January - February. Parents are notified in March after all tests are scored. Services begin after the 'Permission to Place forms are returned.
The Spring testing window is April - May. Parents are notified just before school is dismissed for the year. Services begin the following year, if the 'Permission to Place' form is signed and returned.
Notices are sent home via dojo and posted on the school's marquee in the front parking lot letting parents know when the next testing dates are.
The procedure to get your child tested is that parents must do the sign up, but teachers do make suggestions.
The CogAt test can only be administered once a calendar year. For example, if your child doesn't pass the test in February, they cannot try again until the following February.
Additionally, we strongly encourage students to test in the Winter vs the Fall, as they tend to do better and will begin getting services right away.
